Our Sauvignon Blanc is looking vibrant and fresh, showing lovely purity of fruit. A highlight for this variety will be the Lands and Legends Sauvignon Blanc, which has delivered on every scale. It is extremely concentrated and weighty with punchy aromatics and phenomenal length.
It’s still early days for Pinot Noir, however our Pinots from across Marlborough & Central Otago has graded very well. Fruit profiles are perfumed and feminine with lovely supple tannin fleshing out the wines and adding layers of texture not often seen in New Zealand Pinot Noir.
Matua Chardonnay is showing early signs of producing weighty, powerful wines with a number of batches producing lovely flinty sulphides that will add layers of complexity.
Pinot Gris from across New Zealand is showing very well with vibrant pure fruit and weighty textural palates from both Marlborough and Central Otago.
We were quite targeted with our vineyard block selection for Rosé this year and it has paid off. It’s been an incredible vintage in Marlborough - our Rosé fruit retained naturally high acidity which is conducive to making really good wine, with aromatics reminiscent of strawberry, mandarin quince, peach blossom and spice.
Hawke’s bay experienced a variable year with regular rainfall all season and cooler than average temperatures. Our Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc is showing great promise, as is our soon to be released Hawke’s Bay Rosé for Australia.
Overall Marlborough experienced a very good year – it was mainly dry, nonetheless rainfall at key times helped the vines maintain growth. Yields were above average for most varieties and the quality of fruit exceeded expectations.
The vintage in Central Otago was very warm and dry compared to recent years, and favourable ripening conditions lead to some excellent parcels of fruit coming from the region.
